Playing with quantum toys: Atomic Newton's cradles and Archimedes' screws
Lev, Benjamin - Stanford
Presentation on Thursday, May 11, 2023, noon
Location: MIT CUA Room
Long-lived excited states of interacting quantum systems that retain quantum correlations and evade thermalization are of great fundamental interest. We describe recent experiments that show how one-dimensional, highly magnetic quantum gases can serve as testbeds for exploring this physics. With atomic versions of Newton’s cradles and Archimedes' screws, we show how quantum chaos can emerge from integrability and how a topological pump can realize novel, thermalization-evading "quantum many-body scar" states.
