Optimal universal programming of unitary gates
Renner, Renato - ETHZ
Presentation on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, noon
Location: Online
The “No-Programming Theorem” rules out the existence of perfect universal quantum processors. These are hypothetical devices that execute a unitary gate that is choosable arbitrarily and itself provided as a (quantum) input. In my talk, I will present a recent quantitative version of this theorem, which is about approximate universal quantum processors. It prescribes how the size of the input that encodes the gate must grow with the desired accuracy of the approximation. (The talk is based on the preprint arXiv:2007.10363, which is joint work with Yuxiang Yang and Giulio Chiribella.)
